Well, i was getting sick of how my computer has way too much crap on it, specifically little programs i try playing with, but dont use regularly. Im in the habit of starting fresh every once and a while. However, I tried that and ran into a few problems. Have Vista up and running, but didnt actually wipe my disk. So... do i take the time to actually figure out all the crap i have that i dont need.... or install FreeBSD as my OS. The new version has some really cool features. The one question i have to answer first is did anyone write a driver for the wireless card i have. Wireless is notoriously difficult in open source systems because most of the processors on the cards are closed source and the SDK only gets released to companies.

Not going to deal with that crap today however. I have the night off from milford and get to spend the evening with Abigail..... She is back from Europe for a few days, and i get to actually see her for a while. This is very much needed, and i will likely be in a much better mood monday than I normally am.

Well, going to just get everything else in order.

Intro

Well, giving this a try, to share as well as organize the thoughts in my crazy life.

Little about myself first, currently im practicing as an EMT-intermediate in southern NH, while attending paramedic school. My background is in microbiology however, with a focus on molecular evolution of infectious agents, worked for many years as both a computational biologist and a bacterial geneticist. However, right now emergency medicine is were i want to be.

On those rare days that Im not working I work on one of my numerous interests:
*i am learning to be a bowyer, working on an english style longbow right now
*i study military history from the Classical era to about the 1600s
*study techniques of armor reproduction
*study swordsmanship as well as modern sport fencing
*mess around with computer hardware and OS design

From that list it is likely evident that I also spend a lot of time reading. Everything from medical texts, history, technology, philosophy, biological and physical science, fantasy, and sci-fi.

Also am working with one of my long time friends to create a new campaign world for fantasy role playing (as in D&D). However we are both old school gamers and find many faults with the modern rule set created for D&D by wizards of the coast. While some aspects of the D20 system are acceptable, there are also many major problems that encourage more of a video game like experience and feel, which is not the point of roleplaying games. We want a setting were players are encourage to use their imaginations in creating a character, they face challenges that require them to think through problems, and not just kill everything in their path.

The other friend who is close and very important to me is over in Europe right now for work. So i spend much time dealing with that, and trying to stay in touch even though there is a 6 hour time difference. It has been hard on me as I have some strong feelings for her, but she is so far away for so very long.

Oh yes... the name. Max is a nickname given to me by one of the medics I work with, taken from the Simpsons episode when Homer switched his name to Max Power.

Well.... Today is a day for me to catch up on some mundane crap such as changing the oil in my car, helping my friend work on his, and playing the Wii and just relaxing.
